ACGME Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education

Neurosurgical training programs in the United States are reviewed and accredited by the Residency Review Committee (RRC) for Neurological Surgery under authority delegated to it by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). The ACGME is sponsored by the American Board of Medical Specialists, the American Hospital Association, the American Medical Association, The Association of American Medical Colleges, and the Council of Medical Specialty Societies. The RRC consists of six neurosurgeon members, two representatives from each of the following: the American Board of Neurological Surgery, the American Medical Association, and the American College of Surgeons. The ABNS does not accredit training programs.

A list of programs accredited by the ACGME, including detailed information about each program, is published annually by the American Medical Association in the Graduate Medical Education Directory obtainable in most medical libraries or from the AMA, 535 North Dearborn Street, Chicago, IL 60610.
